setting picklist value based on another field

Hi all,
 
Can we automatically set the value of a pick list field based on the selection of a another field? The second field is a check box.

Yes.  The feature is called dependant fields - check the online help for details.

Can he really, if a field in question is a checkbox like mentioned?

I was of the belief that field dependencies were isolated to picklists, for both the controlling field as well as the dependent one.

In his specific case he can of course mimic the functionality of a checkbox with a two-option picklist representing checked and unchecked values. If you want to do that VIKTOR go to "Setup > {Object in question} > Fields" and click the Field Dependencies button.

Thanks for the reply.

The check box will be in un-checked state initially. it will be automatically set by an external program. Will the pick list value for earlier selection, chage to the value I want, when the check box is checked?
