SForce api call to access picklist values for Task

Hi
 
I am able to access picklist values for all other standard objects like Contact, Account and Campaign but i get blank for Task. How do i get the picklist values for Task.

I want the picklist values for the following Task fields:
Priority
Status
Subject
Type

I found that the sforce api does not return picklist value for an entity if Master Record Type is used. I created a clone of the Master Record Type and assigned it to the relevant profile. The sforce api calls started returning relevant pick values for the entity.
