Difference between Excel connector and Data Loader

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me what is the main difference between Salesforce excel connector and Data loader. Which one is good. As we can do lots of things from Data loader then why we still use Excel connector? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

For what purpose would you be choosing? Don't choose the tool before the job. By the way salesforce has the good coverage of different tools Which Data Import/Export Tool Should I Use (https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewHelpDoc?id=import_which_data_import_tool.htm&language=en)?

Thanks Michael for answering the question. I need the info because my customers has asked me the difference between excel connector and Data loader. It will be really helpful if you can help me on this.
