Reports & Dashboards Specialist - Deleting Incorrect Reports

Hi all,

I ha ve been doing the Reports & Dashboards Specialist Superbadge and i set up the reports incorrectly. I decided to start from scratch and i deleted the old reports with a view to recreating them correctly. The issue i have run into is that i cannot recreate the reports with the nameing conventions required and i am hoping there is a way i can completly delete the incorrect reports including the unique name?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Try waiting for some time. Another option to work through this is to create a new Trailhead Playground and start the challenege there since you intend to start afresh. You can resgister multiple playground orgs against the same trailhead account so that your progress and badges are not lost.

Hope that helps.

Kristian,

The reason I believe you are recieveing this error is because, the previously created report and the dashboard exist with the same API Name which is unique for every report and dashboardrd. I believe you could 2 things here.
  1. Append a 1 to every report and dashbaord previously created so that you can create new reports and dashboards with the exact names as mentioned in the trailhead challenge.
  2. If you intend to delete it, have you checked if the deleted reports still exist in the Recycle Bin. If they do, you can completely delete them and then start with the challenege all over again.

Thanks jigarshah, how do i completly delete them from the recycle bin?

If you are using Salesforce Classic, navigate to the Home tab on your org and search for the Recycle Bin icon in the snapshot below. You could also use the https://na1.salesforce.com/search/UndeletePage url where you replace na1 with your instance specific name.
Recycle Bin on Home in Salesforce Classic
Recycle bin is unavailable in Salesforce Lightning Experience hence you may need to switch over to Classic, delete the reports and dashbaords completely from the Recycle Bin and then switch back to LEX and continue with the challenege if that is an option.

Vote for this idea to make Recycle Bin available in Lightning Experience (https://success.salesforce.com/ideaView?id=08730000000DsAuAAK).

Thanks again - so i navigated to the recycle bin (i was using lightening, thanks for the pointer), deleted the reports, returned to the report builder and tried to save a newly created report with the name from the trailhead and the error is basically the same i.e. name already exists. Does SF keep the API names even after deleting the report out of recycle bin?

Nope Salesforce does not keep the API names after the entities are permanently deleted.

Are you sure you have used the All Recycle Bin option to delete everything from the Recycle Bin. Refer the following knoweldge article that helps udnerstand the deletion process from Recycle Bin better - https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=home_delete.htm&type=0.

Just to check for this i logged out, logged back in, went to recycle bin and selected view all recycle bin and there are "No records to display". The folowing still appears:Error: This Report Unique Name already exists or has been previously used. Please choose a different name.

I read through that article, followed the instructions just in case as well.

Thanks again for your time on this
