How to reproduce the standard menuItems attribute of forceCommunity:navigationMenuBase in apex

Hi,
I want to reproduce the standard attribute "menuItems" in the forceCommunity:navigationMenuBase in apex. I need to get this in order to send it to another Web via WS.
I tried with the NavigationMenuItem but I can't know what is part of a submenu and what is a main menu and how to relacionate it.

So any ideas?
