How to recover Outlook Mac Database?

I am currently running Outlook 2016 for Mac and a couple of days back its database got corrupted. How can I recover the email database? I am getting a pop-up message that says "Outlook cannot open the file because it is not associated with default identity".
If anyone is aware of this problem then please help me out. Thanks

You can rebuild the Outlook Mac database identity, here are some steps that you can follow:
  • On the Outlook menu, click Turn Off Office Reminders.
  • Quit Messenger for Mac and all Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook.
  • Open the Microsoft Database Utility. (The default location is in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2016/Office/)
  • Click the identity of the database you want to rebuild, and then click Rebuild.

If this doesn't help then there are third party application that helps in recovering Outlook Mac Database, like http://www.outlookmacdatabaserecovery.com/

If that too doesn't work then you will have to seek the help of OLK15 message recovery. OLK15message files are file extension created and used by New Outlook 15 for Mac. The OLK15message file, contains the email’s header information and also the email body contents, but also stored separately, in other words, Outlook 15/Office 365 for Mac makes use of these files by showing message overviews when you are actually searching for your emails and such.

The manual steps were not helping. Rebuilding the database was just quitting in between the process. I opted for the software use. I tried both the tools for their trial version and surprisingly both worked. Now I am deciding which one to go for. Thanks for the help.
