How to programmatically select n application tab

I have content that displays in a salesforce application tab that I define under User Interface -> Tabs.  In that content, I have a link that should select another tab of the running application, for example the "Sales" application, and make that the active tab, perhaps the "Opportunities" tab, but it can be any available tab actually.  How can I do this?  Is there some JavaScript that would do it perhaps?

You can try with UI API of the salesforce But i am not much sure you can able to override it .. But here is the reference for you
