Hi Kriti,
Salesforce provides good security to safeguard a user's data. They provide roles, profiles, field level security, organization-wide defaults and many more.
Although data loss in Salesforce can be credited to some reasons. It may happen on account of changing date or time, migrating data from one type to other types, a change from multi-select pick list to different classes. In addition to this, data loss might occur on account of alterations to multi-select picklist, a shift in auto-numbering, and switch from a text area to email, URL and phone services.
Hope it gives you an idea.

While Salesforce provides us with our data's security, as Shubham mentioned, Data loss could happen at any time. That's why you need to provide some security for yourself. I did so by reading this article about data loss prevention tools at https://spinbackup.com/blog/data-loss-prevention-tool-advantages/. It helped me to understand the importance of having such tools.
