Force.com IDE unable to create new Project
I am sometimes successful in creating a new IDE Project, and have deployed changes in the past. But getting the metadata is pretty much a hit or miss thing. Today I am unable to create a new Project after multiple attempts with select content. When I click to add selected metadata I get:
"Unable to determine if resource is force managed: Resource does not exist. Cause: (1) Resource does not exist."
When I pull up an old Project (that I've been successful in deploying changes to in the past) when I click "Add/Remove", error I get (before adding anything) is: Unable to refresh metadata: An unexpected error has occurred."
To create a new Project I follow the instructions to Select File | New | Force.com Project. I've tried Switch Workspace. I created a new project without contents, which was successful, but then ran into the errors when I tried to "Add" select content.

The release numbering of Force.com IDE seems different from the global release of Salesforce but the IDE is clearly deprecated and not updated for the DX environment anymore (Force.com IDE 2)
If there is not a new release for the Eclipse IDE soon that will be a big problem because the metadata, the language and so on has changed a lot.

I hope I'm wrong but given that the official tool for developer (excepted the developer console) is Visual Studio Code (free) of Microsoft and not Force.com IDE anymore, that could be a blocking problem without solution.
That could seem incredible but
Force.com IDEis now deprecated and this IDE has not been updated for more than a year (Winter ’17).https://developer.salesforce.com/forums/ForumsMain?id=9060G0000005SwJQAU
By the way, there is a big error here: https://developer.salesforce.com/page/Tools
Force.com IDE: This powerful Chrome extension (?) lets you inspect and optimize Lightning Components by giving you access to a wealth of data about your running applications and components [ Chrome or perhaps ... Eclipse because it is still a link for Eclipse Force IDE but they don't want Eclipse anymore so now it became a Chrome extension? ]
... that shows the minor importance given to the developers who use Eclipse IDE (one of the rare official Salesforce tools for developer until recently).
Last release Note : Winter ’17 (Force.com IDE v38.0) contains the following updates:
https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.eclipse.meta/eclipse/ide_release_notes.htm
https://resources.docs.salesforce.com/214/latest/en-us/sfdc/pdf/eclipse.pdf
... proof that there is no update the last year at least for the Eclipe IDE.
Current release: v44.0
Force.com IDE 2 for Salesforce DX has completely disappeared.

Using a developer org I was successful in pulling object metadata today.
