Can you merge an existing Contact and an existing Account into a PersonAccount?

If you have Person Accounts already enabled and working and you have an existing Contact and an existing Account, can you somehow take these two and merge them, thus creating a Person Account?

Try using Duplicate/Matching Rules but I don't think it will fit your purpose. There are free apps on the app exchange that may help you.  If you are doing a mass merge then I recommend using apps. They are more effective and does the job better.
One free app I can think of is DupeCatcher.
