I am trying to create a new trailhead playground, but keep receiving the following error:
This site can’t be reached
playful-bear-233555-dev-ed.my.salesforce.com’s server DNS address could not be found.
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN
I am using Chrome. I can log into an existing org I had, but would like a new for this project.

I had this issue once. It sorted out itself in an hour or so.
If it doesn't do that for you, I suggest you attempt to create a new playground after a while.
You can even try to create a new Developer Edition and link it to your Trailhead account later.
