Salesforce download

I have been learning Salesforce (Trailhead) online on Salesforce site for weeks. But I always have a question in mind - is a Salesforce developer  tool, product or something like that we need to download it so we can set up Salesforce locally and develop the app locally?

does it exist?

Ok Thanks for the link. I guess i need for time to figure out and make sense of Salesforce develoment environment. I am "traditional" developer working with, sucha as Eclipse as a tool to write code, compile it and deploy it. I worked wth Oracle APEX a few years too and it seems this Salesforce development environment and products are similar to Oracle APEX.
