There is no major difference between both of them. In both tool you can take backup and do the coding.
Force.com IDE is a simple plugin for Eclipse. Means if you want to use the Salesforce in Eclipse then you need to install the Force.com plugin in your Eclipse.
Only minor Difference you can say in Eclipse you can work on other language also but Force.com IDE is just for salesforce.
Sorry, I was suppose to ask the adavantages of Eclipce IDE over SF Developer Console.
