Sharing setting for External Object

What are the options to control sharing of external objects? Is it possible to use sharing rules for external objects?

Will you please confirm if there is any way of controlling OWD access or it if is always just read access for all?

Record-level security to manage data access for external objects is NOT available.

So this rules out the possibility of using any of the record sharing mechanisms for external object.

Object level access permissions can be controlled from profile for External objects.

Restriction Rule can be created on External Object.
