Auto Number field for a record name is skipped. How to prevent that?

Hi All,

I have a field for name on my custom object that is of auto number type, but what I see is some times after record creation some numbers are skipped inspite of "enable Independent Auto-Number Sequence" being enabled.
Want a resolution ASAP.

Thanks for your revert.
But the solution you provided is not feasible in our case as we cannot delete data.
We just need that auto number should always follow teh sequence be it anything.
Salesforce doesn't have any answer to it. SO, if you have anything else that can help, please let us know about that.
