restricting access to CONTACT table

We will eventually have a massively large CONTACT table and want to restrict access by user roles.

How can this be done?

Vinay, as I understand it, the CONTACT table is the one of the main tables in Salesforce, it's where all the individuals are, and then invididuals are children to ACCOUNTs (organizations)
