Any ideas on how to do a global update for the new 255 char field?

How to create a truncated version of field for 255 characters for existing data or Historical data,for new and updated data i have the solution mentioned here  (https://developer.salesforce.com/forums/ForumsMain?id=9062I000000Qz0BQAS)

I am interested to do a global update for the new 255 char field?Possible?

Greetings!

Unfortunately,Changes to fields with more than 255 characters are tracked as edited, and their old and new values are not recorded as mentioned in the below document.

Please check the second point under "
Consider the following when working with field history tracking.".

So,it is not possible to see the historical data if the characters are more than 255 characters.If it is less than they you will be able to track them if you enable the "FieldHistoryTracking" on the field.

Please refer the document (https://trailhead.salesforce.com/en/content/learn/projects/customize-a-salesforce-object/account-field-history-tracking)to enable the History tracking.
