write a trigger on contact number of contacts in account:error : Number_of_Contacts__c variable doesnt exist ; line 21 and 24

You need to create a new custom filed on the account object with API Number_of_Contacts__c ..  

And Make sure your profile is having access to the Number_of_Contacts__c  filed from the field level securities and your code is working fine
