Enabling My Domain for Lightning resulting in mapping to existing Domain

I enabled My Domain in my SDO image as "abcdemo.my.salesforce.com". Check availability said OK and it saved.  I received the confirmation email and when I clicked on the confirmation link to the signon page, here's what I got. Clearly someone has this domain so now what do I do?

That's really weird.  Unfortunately you cannot change it without support intervention [1].  I've reached out to someone about this and maybe he can give some insight.
