flex air application - detecting a valid session (sso)

How do we detect whether there's an authenticated session in an air application?

Well, you really can't because the Air app doesn't know anything about a browser running.

Air runs on it's own and when you launch the app you will need to log in from the Air app. An Air app cannot be used in a Force.com application. In other words, you can't use it in a Visualforce page or scontrol. You can certainly do that with a Flex app but not an Air app.
