Here comes Zimbra
One of the big weaknesses of Salesforce is the cumberson email integration. It was thus with much interest I read the progress of Zimba in integrating outlook and office products INSIDE the saleforce system.
Does anyone have any idea when this will be released as an appexhange application and what the associated costs are?
Also, I was wondering if anyone has advice on learning AJAX vs .NET when it comes to salesforce...would it be better long term option to learn Ajax coding via Eclipse than a related curve vai .NET and Visual Studio?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
Hi Jason,

Javascript (AJAX) is good for small projects as it's quick to get started. It's a loosly typed language and it does not compile so errors tend to be found during execution and without warning. It also has a problem seperating name spaces, so for large projects it becomes a nightmare. But for browser executed code snippets it is great.
For server side execution learn C# .Net, the transition between Javascript and C# is quite simple as the structure is similar. But you will need to learn object oriented design for c# which is optional for Javascript which has a fairly klunky implementation of OOP in any case.
I'd start with Javascript because it's quick and simple and you can get some really powerful results in S-Controls and custom-links that will add value for you quickly. Then progress to C# if you want to create sever-side, win32 clients or MS-Office integration and are willing to spend the time to learn it.
