create public objects which others can visit

Can I create an public object in salesforce, which others can visit but can't edit it.

Yes, you can do it.

 

For this you’ll have to set ‘OWD’ as Public Read for that object.

sorry, what is "OWD", If I want to create a public opportunity, where should I set it?

'OWD' is Organization Wide Default.

 

You can visit it going  

Setup>Administration Setup>Security Controls>Sharing Settings

 

To make opportunity public, just set OWD as Public read/write for Opportunity object.

but this opportunity only can be shown to the user in my account. I can't show them to a stranger or my customer.
