I am looking to do the same. Specifically when a user logs a case using the self service portal I would like them to be able to add an attachment - for example a screen dump or log file.
There is an option to add an attachment to a case from Salesforce. I cant find a way to make this option appear on the log case screen of the self service portal.
I've found it now. It not in the obvious place. You can add attachments to a self service case only once you have submitted it. You can then go to the view cases tab and add in from there.
This is setup on the self service portal settings by editing the view cases page and ticking the add attachments box
