Formula to return checkbox

I need to return checkbox value checked or unchecked based on another field content.... is it possible?

Currently, you cannot create a formula field of type Checkbox.

You could however, create a formula field that displays a checkmark image under certain conditions and a different image under other conditions.  There are a few ways to do this, depending on what the other fields are that determine this functionality.
