Lookup filter?

Does Salesforce.com have plans to allow filtering on a lookup field?  I.e., when the user clicks the lookup icon on the Account edit form, the lookup is filtered by a specified record type.

Or is this question best addressed with customer support?

has anybody accomplished this via a sControl button (or overriding the lookup button if that's possible) with all the added functionality we've seen lately in SFDC?  This is a huge issue for my users as we have may relationships to different Account and Contact Record Types.
