Date format when using data loader?

Hi what should be the date format when using the data loader to upload records from a csv file converted by excel?

What if I need to update date field for an org whose date format is dd/mm/yyyy (Locate is Set to "English (UK)") i used Data loader and in settings i checked to checkbox that will take UK date format BUT, it updates the date to a day before . For eg: if i updated date to 23/12/2010 , it will update it to 22/12/2010? Any suggestions will be helpful
