Account to auto-populate in New Opportunity

Hi,
 
I was wondering if anyone had any idea of why the account name does not automatically populate when a new opportunity is created?  This functionaliy was working until I created a new Detail Page Button and added it to my page layout.  The button only sends an email to the primary contact in the opportunity.  I don't see how the two are related, but could that be possible?

The account name will automatically populate in a new Opportunity if you create that Opportunity using the New button on the related list on Account (unless you've overridden that button or replaced it with your own New button).

Thanks for the clarification werewolf.  I was searching through and found that another admin had overridden the original new button.
