How to update Case Field when incoming email arrives?

  I have tried using Workflows, approval processes and such, but am completely stumped. When an email comes in from the Email2Case, I would like the status of a case to be updated to reflect the current status.

Any ideas?

There must be a way to use an Email activity as a trigger to perform a field update workflow. Is this done with full apex code or can be done with a S-Control?
