Text Areas not fully viewable in read only mode as well as in excel reports...

I have a custom object with a field of type Long Text (32000). The complete value of this field doesn't show up on a screen as well as when a report is extracted into excel.
 
Please help.

excel will happily truncate text which is longer that it's limit, something like 512 chars.
I think this is just a limitation of excel.

In Salesforce report, only 254 characters are shown from long text fields. Is there a way to show complete content of long text field in reports?
