Home page default to calendar?

Is there a way to change the home page in Sales Force to the 31 day calendar by managing the API?

You can customize your homepage layout. Click Setup, then go to Customize > Home > Home Page Layouts. Check the Calendar checkbox to have it appear and position it on your page. Then just make sure your users are assigned to that Home Page Layout - is that what you  mean?

Yes and no. Can I make the multi user calendar in open form my home page layout?  Also when I sign in, I am directed to "getting started" instead of home, even though I have set my default  to my dashboard.
