Populating picklist values based on a custom object field value

Hi,

Is it possible to have a picklist whose values are dynamically populated based on some other custom objects data with using extending the controller using visual force ?

Yes it is possible, you can query those object records and then take the particular value and keep it in sets and then add it to select list.
