Task - time dependent workflow action - email alert?

I would like to send an email alert to the task owner if the task is not completed 5 days after due date.

 

Rule criteria = Task: Status not equal to Completed

Time trigger = 5 days after Due Date

 

When trying to add the workflow action, I don't have the possibility to choose email alert..

 

 

 

Is there a reason for this?

You should be able to add it, click edit next to workflow Actions , under bottom select Add workflow Action and there you should be able to add the email alert action.

I ran into the same issue and was told that this isn't possible.  Per the help files this is intended behaviour and meant to keep some kind of perpetual cycle from happening.  Personally, its a significant limitation for my users.

No I really don't have that option. Email alert is just not there in the list of worfklow actions (as you see on the screenshot).

 

Could you trying creating a WFR on the task object with a time-dependent workflow action? And see if you got the possibility to add an email alert? Because it wouldn't make sense at all that some Salesforce users would be able to do this and others don't.
