unable to access contact name field in the formula field.

HI

 

I am creating a formula field, in that contact name is required. But I am unable to find contact name field. It is displaying error screen "doesn't exist name field". Anybody have any idea why name field is not listed while creating name fiels.

The name field is a composite of  salutation first name and last name. You can either use the last name only  in your formula or add the first name with &

Is 'middle name' part of NAME field? Or NAME is only combination of 'first name' and 'last name'?
