default value for contact name when a new case record is created

How can I setup a default value for contact name when a new case record is created?

you can use workflow rule to update case contact to default value.

I'm also facing similar issue. But issue is , while creating workflow rule, I see a very limited list of fields which can be updated.

When object is "case", all fields related to contact are absent. So not sure, how this will work.
