How to inspect objects for development

When I go to Setup/Create/Objects/MyCustomObject I don't see

 

1. The api names for the various properties

2. external id fields

3. The id # for the object

 

How can i inspect the custom object?

The best way is to download the Force.com IDE and double-click the Salesforce.schema icon -- that will give you a little explorer and query builder where you can see these things.
