Can SFDC trigger automatic phone calls via IVR?

Use Case: Customer has an IVR integrated with Salesforce.com. He wants to trigger an automatic phone call (say 2 hrs before an event) to alert the customer.

Any ideas on if and how this could be achieved?

Thanks!

You can do it, but you'd need an integration with something that can do the scheduled autodial, like Five9: http://sites.force.com/appexchange/listingDetail?listingId=a0N30000001gGgIEAU

Although, to be clear, in this case you'd probably be using Five9 as your IVR.  Five9 would generate the call and then would play the message via its own IVR.

@werewolf thanks. Seems like this auto dial feature is specific to certain IVRs. Not sure if the IVR used by the customer can do this.

I was wondering if outbound messages triggered from Salesforce.com can be processed by IVRs to do an auto dial.

Well, that would totally depend on the IVR in question, but for most IVRs the answer is no because they're not really made to take in external input unbidden by an inbound call.  Five9 can only do it because its IVR is backed by a dialer which is made to take that kind of input.
