Viewing reports on a detail page

Hello

 

I would like to configure my detail page so that it shows either a filtered related list or a report.  For instance, I am trying to have an "Upcoming Deals" block that shows opportunities filtered by close date.  What is the best way to go about this?  Will I have to create a VisualForce page?

Which object's detail page are you referring to?  Do you want the Account's page to show upcoming deals?  You can set the ordering on the Opportunity related list that already shows on the Account page if that helps.  Anything custom would likely need to be a visualforce page component that you add to the page layout.
