Moving

Hi Friends,

When we move from SFDC 2 SFDC and we have to create profiles, roles etc .What all we need to consider while making roles in the new salesforce.I know we have to create heirarchy, create same sharing rules which were there in the other instance.what else do we need to condider while doing SFDC 2 SFDC migration as far as roles are concerned.

Thanks,

Trick,

Roles are used to grant data access based on the hierarchy.  The main points to check are the actaul hierarchy itself (make sure that it makes sense) and the sharing rules.

The main thing to be aware of when managing roles and hierarchy is about your data.  If you are migrating to a new instance, it is best to assign your users to their roles prior to importing your data.  If you have data in the system, then each time you change a user's role, the system has to recalculate all of the record access.  if you have large volumes of data, this can take a long time depending on the complexity of your sharing.

Fro more info on roles, check out the help and training

Hoe this helps

Thanks jay,

Problem is that we have to move many users from Sfdc to sfdc and we have to move heirarchy and sharing rules as well.Is there a way to identify  sharing rules associated with Heirarchy in the system.

Thanks,

If you go to your Sharing Settings (Setup | Administrations Setup | Security Controls | Sharing Settings) you will see all of your sharing rules that have been set up.  Any of the rules that have "Role" or "Role and Subordinates" in the "Owned By" or "Shared With" columns will be sharing rules that deal with your Role Hierarchy.

Unfortunately, there is no way to query and export these sharing rules, and they will have to be manually created.
