Id of the field

How do i populate the field value on the vf page using the id of the field (probably from the page's source code)?

 Kindly help.

I have an inline vf page on a standard detail page where only a single button is present. when i do an inline edit for a particular field in the particular record and before saving the record, if i click on the inline vf button, it should throw a pop-up error stating "Pls save the record". Only when i save the record the onclick operation of the button should take place. In inline edit mode the the button on the standard detail page should not work. Is it possible?
