is there any way to update all the records with the help of work flow in salesforce?

When ever we insert new record updating the new record field value to some value.

And all the past records values to some value. Instead of trigger is there any way to do it?

Hi 

 

The workflow fires when ever a record is edited ,created and updated .

But if u want to update all the records with specific values in the previous record the best way is dataloader.
