Serve resources from cookieless domain

Static resouces (images, css, js) are delivered with embed cookies data. But this adds additional request overhead. In other words, those resources such as images, JS and CSS files, don't need to be accompanied by cookies.

Does anyone have experience hosting those files outside salesforce infrastructure ?

You can definitely reference external images and content that are presented on VF pages through normal HTML tags from resources located on any external server.

Doesn't really matter too much where certain kinds of resources are hosted - although I would caution on doing this just for the sake of doing it.  SF's infrastructure is pretty darn beefy.  If you start splitting your content all over the Internet, there are losses in processing time and even potentially reliability there.
