Hi Rupesh,

I have found this article on the developer wiki: http://wiki.developerforce.com/index.php/Checkout_Force.com_Metadata_From_Subversion .

I have used the stand alone application and though it's great to start with, I found installing Eclipse and then the necessary plugins (Force.com IDE and Subversion) worked best for me.

You can find instructions on how to install the Force.com IDE plugin in the wiki pages.

To then use subversion plugin in combination with the Force.com IDE I would recommend viewing this Dreamforce 10 session:

Thanks for the info..sebcos, I know about eclipse and force.com IDE plugin with Subversion.... I would like to understand why is eclipse preferred over stand alone force.com IDE and infact wht are the disadvantages of using stand alone force.com IDE... Is is possible to maintain versions of code using stand alone force.com IDE?? Awaiting your reply, Thanks, Rupesh

Probably you can install the subversion plugin or any other plugin also in the stand alone option, I have not tried that.

I don't know of any particular disadvantages, the thing is I prefer to install Eclipse and the plugins myself, it takes no time and makes me feel in control.

If you want an alternative to Eclipse IDE and plugins, you can have a look at BrainEngine's IDE. It's still in beta but it looks promising with code assistance and version control and it's all in the cloud.
