Problem with OwnerID field update

Hi,

 

  I am trying to change OwnerID  of an Opportunity  using update soap api call.

 I am getting following error

Unable to create/update fields: OwnerId. Please check the security settings of this field and verify that it is read/write for your profile.

 

I can able to change the owner through www.salesforce.com web page .  Please help.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you doing this with a user that has modify_all_data?

The ability to change the owner by non admin users is something we are working to fix for the Winter release. For now, you need to change owner with a more powerful user.
