Field requiredness based on a picklist value

I need to determine field requiredness - required, read only, optional, based on a value selected for another field.
Any ideas?

There is no way through dependant picklists you can make a field "read only"
 
Required and Optional can work through dependancy -but to make it read only based on a selection in another field - well that not possible in SF.  :womansad:
