unable to install custom links automatically with application installation

I wanted to know if there is a possible way to have custom links and buttons appear automatically on the page layout when the application package is installed.

Nick,
   From what I've seen, its not possible to deliver custom page layouts with your package.
 
   I also saw this thread on the discussion boards:
 
   From what I've seen, the most common solution is to include an "About your product" custom tab that is accessible only by Administrators, and on that tab you provide installation/configuration instructions.
