How to sum (count) Member Status for Campaigns

Anyone know of a way to count (summarize) the total number of times a Member Status is selected for a particular Campaign?

Scenario:

- In Advanced Setup for "Campaign A" I added a new status called "Appointment".

- I want to create a new field within the "Campaign Statistics" section to show the total number of Members who have the "Appointment" status.

I looked at creating a roll-up summary formula but didn't see any options to roll up "Appointment".

Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

If the two objects are related to each other through master-detail or lookup, you can use workflows. Else, you can use triggers.
