Hi,

 

At the time of creating Lookup field, you probably have few record without parent records.

(As Parent is optional in Lookup relationship).

 

In lookup relationship, when you delete Parent record, child record never gets deleted. So these child records are present without their parent record.

 

In such case when you try to convert Lookup into Master-Detail relationship, you will get error like, there are child record without parent. Hence you can not change the relationship so. Either you will have to provide parent to those child records or delete all child records. And then change the relationship.
