How to query workflows and validation rules?

Hi ,

 

Is there any way to query the workflows/validation rules associated with a particular object? If not available through query, how can it be accessed?

They are metadata of salesforce.

You can activate and deactivate them.

But i want to query the workflows associated with an object as part of a requirement? I could not find the object name of workflow..  Or can this requirement be met in any other way?
