How to pre populate value while clicking new custom button in child object?

I want to pre populate values of master record information in to my while clicking new btn in Related list?How to do this explain with one example?pls help me...Urgent

you can overide your button with js and return url in which you will add the field id == "your value here" and you will get the value populated directly. Every field has a unique id asociated with it howevere you cannot access it dynamically in program but need to be hardcoded in url.
