Centralized configuration of Salesforce for Outlook

Hello,

We are preparing to push out Salesforce to our organization globally. Is there any way to set the configuration centrally (registry entry, group policy, config file on workstation)? We want to set settings such as which Contacts folder to sync with, etc. These settings are set within the Salesforce for Outlook client once the user has logged on and started Outlook. When we are talking about 100 users, it's going to take a while to get everyone set up. There's got to be an easier way to configure these settings without having to log on to each workstation and do the configuration. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,

Salesforce for Outlook can be configured for the complete ORG from the following location:

Setup | Administration Setup | Desktop Administration | Outlook Configuration |

You can create a configuration and assign users to it. You will be able to control the sync direct, objects to sync etc from this config.

Help links:

http://login.salesforce.com/help/doc/en/outlookcrm_sfo_about.htm

http://login.salesforce.com/help/doc/en/outlookcrm_config_about.htm

By default, Salesforce for Outlook syncs with the default Outlook folders for  Contacts/Events/Tasks so if users is OK with Syncing default folders, he can simply login and start using SFO without doing any manual settings at his end.

Hope this info helps!

Thanks for the reply. The issue is that we don't want to sync to the default folders. That's why I need to find a way to alter the configuration without logging onto each person's workstation.

Thanks!

Good Morning!!

I did some research regarding the options we can have to configure Salesforce for Outlook folder, I explored the MSI version of SFO but again MSI is a tool for getting the software installed, not configured.

The product config is managed in the cloud, except for folder selection. There's not a straightforward way to manage the folders as an admin as of today.

One workaround is to manipulate the SQLite database that SFO uses (at %appdata%\salesforce.com\Salesforce for Outlook\DB), then use that to distribute and seed each user's machine. You can install a SQLite plug-in for Firefox from here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sqlite-manager/. This will allow you to view and edit the SQLite database.

The product isn't really designed to do this, so we couldn't support any side effects.

You can also evaluate LinkPoint's Outlook integration for Salesforce on the AppExchange. LinkPoint can be fully pre-configured so during installation, all your settings including synchronization settings would already be set for your users.
